    ENAMELLED COPPER WIRE

Loose Shank – Enamelled Copper Wire (4 mm – 4.5 mm Diameter)
Same High-Performance Wire in a Flexible Coil Format

Premium Grade 2 enamelled copper winding wire (also referred to as magnet wire) with a temperature class of 200 °C, supplied in a convenient loose shank format. The listed diameters (4 mm to 4.5 mm) refer to the bare copper wire only — the enamel coating typically adds approximately 0.02 mm to the overall diameter. Each shank is coiled to approximately 36–38 mm wide, allowing easy handling, efficient storage, and smooth unwinding for larger-scale production runs or on-site repairs.

Well-suited for heavy-duty motor rewinds, transformer construction, and electrical repair applications where larger diameter conductors are required. Customers seeking alternative conductor types may also be interested in our electrical insulation cables.

    Key Features:

    • Grade 2 enamel insulation rated to 200 °C
    • Loose coil format – approx. 36–38 mm wide
    • High-purity copper core with heat-resistant enamel coating
    • Dependable performance under demanding thermal and mechanical conditions
    • Compact storage and straightforward manual handling

    Available Weights:

    • 1 kg, 2 kg, 3 kg shanks (4 mm – 4.5 mm diameter range)

    Typical Applications:

    • Heavy-duty motor rewinding

Enamelled Copper Wire Shanks – Frequently Asked Questions

    What are copper wire shanks?

Shanks are bulk bundles of enamelled copper wire supplied without a reel. They’re ideal for larger diameters (≥2.0 mm) where winding onto small spools can risk cracking the insulation.

Why are larger diameter wires only sold in shanks?

For diameters of 2.0 mm and above, enamelled copper wire is supplied in loose shanks or 5 kg spools (only available in 2.0 mm). This prevents enamel cracking that can occur during tight spooling of heavier gauges.

Does a larger diameter wire have more resistance?

No. Resistance is inversely proportional to diameter. Thicker copper wire has lower resistance, making it more efficient for high-current applications such as transformers, motors, and heavy-duty coils.

What sizes are available in shanks?

We stock 1 kg, 2 kg, and 3 kg shanks in diameters of 2.0 mm and above. These bulk sizes reduce joins and are well suited for industrial rewinds and production runs.

    What uses big copper wire?

Larger gauge enamelled copper wire is used in transformers, industrial motors, alternators, electromagnets, and heavy-duty coil production where high current capacity is essential.
