    HIGH-TEMPERATURE DOOR SEALS

    High-Temperature Tadpole Tape
Custom Bulb Seals for Furnaces, Kilns, Boilers & Industrial Ovens

High-Temperature Tadpole Tape, High-Temperature Tadpole Tape is a custom-made bulb-and-tail door sealing tape used on furnaces, kilns, boilers and industrial ovens. Sometimes referred to as a tadpole gasket or P-style seal, it is manufactured to suit your required dimensions, operating temperature and sealing performance.

    Key Features:

    • Temperature Options: Standard fibreglass constructions rated to 550°C, with ceramic fibre constructions available for applications up to approximately 1260°C.
    • Custom Manufactured: Built to your required bulb diameter, tail profile and overall dimensions.
    • Core Options: Standard fibreglass rope, braided fibreglass or ceramic fibre core to suit your sealing requirements.
    • Wide Size Range: Bulb diameters from 6.5 mm to 50 mm with various tail widths and profile configurations.
    • Compressible Seal: Designed to conform to uneven sealing surfaces, helping reduce heat loss and air leakage.
    • Made to Order: Manufactured to suit your equipment and operating conditions. Minimum order quantities may apply.

    Common Applications:

    • Industrial oven and kiln door seals
    • Furnace access doors and inspection panels
    • Boiler and burner doors
    • Thermal processing equipment
    • Ducting and high-temperature access hatches

    HOW TO MEASURE TADPOLE TAPE

Tadpole Tape Size Guide – Standard, Double Bulb & Double Tail

This guide shows the three main tadpole gasket profiles — Standard, Double Bulb, and Double Tail. Use the diagram to identify the correct Bulb Diameter (mm), Tail Width (mm), or Overall Width (mm) depending on which style you require.

    Selection & Installation Guide

Choosing the correct tadpole tape involves more than selecting the bulb size. The core material and the way the seal compresses both influence sealing performance and door design.

    Choosing the Right Core

    Standard Fibreglass Rope Core
Best for most oven, furnace, kiln and boiler door seals where a flexible, compressible seal is required.
    Braided Fibreglass Core
Recommended where greater resistance to compression or a firmer seal is preferred.
    Ceramic Fibre Core
Suitable for higher-temperature applications or where a softer, more compressible seal is preferred.

    Installation Considerations

Tadpole tape is designed to compress when the door closes, creating an effective seal. The final installed thickness varies depending on the application and cannot be specified as a single compressed dimension.

    Seal compression depends on:
    • Bulb diameter
    • Core type
    • Door closing force
    • Hinge and latch design
    • Operating temperature
    Designing new equipment?

If you're designing a new oven, furnace, kiln or insulated door, request a quote and let us know your operating temperature, sealing requirements and equipment design. We can recommend the most suitable tadpole tape construction for your application.

    Replacing Asbestos Door Seals?

Fibreglass Tadpole Tape is commonly used as a modern replacement for older asbestos door seals found on industrial heating equipment. Its flexible bulb-and-tail design provides an effective seal while offering improved durability and safer handling than legacy asbestos sealing materials.

    Selecting the right replacement

There isn't a single replacement for every asbestos door seal. The correct bulb diameter, tail profile and core construction depend on your equipment, operating temperature, door design and sealing requirements. If you're replacing an existing seal, send us the dimensions or a photo and we'll recommend the most suitable tadpole tape for your application.
